In case of a hoarse or tired voice it is important to stop speaking or singing in time, when the voice gets tired. If there are complaints it is often caused by incorrect using of the voice. Carrying on speaking or singing for too long can damage the vocal cords and can strain the voice even more.  Drinking enough water can bring relief. It helps to lubricate the voice and to support the mucous membrane of the vocal cords.

Smoking and hard liquor are not good for the voice. Avoid smoking areas. Screaming and shouting also strain the voice, so it is inadvisable.

This advice is only for the treatment of symptoms. Usually there is a structurally defective or wrong use of the voice, which can only be treated by a speech therapist.
